Join the Garden’s bug science team for a morning of coffee, pastries, and fascinating bee facts. Terrestrial Invertebrate Conservation Ecologist Dr. Sarah Cusser will share the surprising story of California’s native solitary bees, who they are, how they live, and why they are some of the most important (and underrated!) pollinators in our landscapes.

While honey bees often get the spotlight, thousands of native bee species quietly do incredible work pollinating wild plants and crops. Sarah will introduce some of the remarkable solitary bees you might find right here in Santa Barbara, explain how their lifestyles differ from social honey bees, and share tips for spotting and supporting these tiny but mighty pollinators in your own garden.
