Details:

The Santa Barbara County Fire Safe Council, in partnership with the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, is offering a series of workshops on fire-smart landscaping, or “firescaping.”

This one-day workshop is designed for landscape design professionals and focuses on the principles, techniques, and best practices for creating sustainable, resilient gardens that enhance both beauty and fire safety. Participants will explore how thoughtful design can help reduce wildfire risk while meeting client goals.

The course will also cover the full lifecycle of a landscape project—from initial design inspiration through installation, client satisfaction, and long-term maintenance—providing a comprehensive understanding of how to implement firescaping in professional practice.

Participants who successfully complete the course have the option to earn a Certificate of Completion from the Santa Barbara County Fire Safe Council. Those who receive the certificate will be featured in the Council’s “Certified Provider Listing.”

This class will meet in the Library, and will be followed by a walk around the Garden.

It is highly recommended that participants wear comfortable clothing and shoes, and bring a hat and/or sunscreen and a water bottle. Participants should also plan on bringing their own lunch.
