Hear from the Garden’s Senior Rare Plant Conservation Scientist, Heather Schneider, Ph.D., at an exciting event at the Robert J. Lagomarsino Visitor Center at Channel Islands National Park! Discover the fascinating world of rare plants and their conservation efforts at Santa Barbara Botanic Garden.

We live in a botanical wonderland. California is home to more kinds of native plants than any other state in the country and many of them occur nowhere else on Earth, but more than one third of California’s native plants are rare. Why are so many California native plants rare? What does it take to understand, protect and restore native plants and why do they matter? Join Dr. Heather Schneider to learn about the Garden’s comprehensive approach to rare plant conservation. Heather will share examples of plants and projects ranging from the Channel Islands to the Eastern Sierra Nevada as she describes her team’s work and the progress that they’ve made towards protecting California’s rarest plants.

This event is hosted by the Ventura Land Trust and Southern California Edison.
