Details:
Join us for a celebration of the exhibition Seed: A Living Dream on May 4, from 2-3 p.m. Artist Rosie Brand invites you to return for The Opening of the Pods, a playful activation of her sculptures.
Throughout the course of the exhibition, viewers have been invited to feel the texture of the clay in its unfired form, by interacting with the ‘Raw Clay Seed Pods’ sculptures. As a medium that is inherently recyclable, clay shares the cyclical nature of plants. These pieces interpret the ephemerality of seed pods, delicate and fragile, degrading gradually over the course of the five months on exhibit.
Now viewers are invited to return for The Opening of the Pods. A unique opportunity to participate in the exhibition. Following a short artist talk, we will break open each of these unfired pieces. Participants will reclaim the clay, and reveal tiny seed sculptures within.
This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. If you choose to participate in the performance, you may get your hands a little messy, but the clay is nontoxic and will not stain. This event will be documented, if you do not wish to be photographed, you can let us know on the day.
Attendees will receive a complimentary risograph printed artist’s zine.
Guests registered for this event are requested to park in the staff lot on the east side of Mission Canyon Road. Carpooling is encouraged.
Although the Garden is dog-friendly, only service animals are permitted at this Garden classes (or event).
This is a free opportunity, however, registration is required.
