Details:
Join us for a very special trip to Fry’s Harbor on the north shore of Santa Cruz Island. Trips are rarely offered to this location and require special permission from The Nature Conservancy. We will land via a small shore boat on a rocky beach at the site of a rock quarry that was active from the mid-1920s until 1930. Rocks from this site were used to build the breakwater in the Santa Barbara Harbor. We will see some historic remnants of the quarry operation and explore the canyon above it.
All ages are welcome, however participants should be in good physical condition. We highly recommend that participants wear good hiking shoes and a hat, and bring sunscreen/sunblock. There are no facilities at this location, therefore guests must bring water and food with them for their time on the island. Additional information with directions to the harbor and travel preparation will be sent to registered guests via email.
If you have questions about the classes, or need assistance with registration, please contact the Education Department: registrations@sbbotanicgarden.org or 805-682-4726, ext. 102
