Biodiversity Vision and Policy Framework
Throughout 2023, Santa Barbara Botanic Garden and a number of local conservation organizations worked in partnership to develop a shared vision and policy platform for biodiversity throughout the region. After two facilitated forums with over 100 environmental leaders, a series of surveys and interviews with key stakeholders, and research into similar policies from around the region and state, two main outcomes resulted from these collaborative sessions:
A Community Vision and Policy Platform in Support of Biodiversity on California’s Central Coast
A Working Group to Monitor Local Initiatives in Support of Biodiversity Policy, Advocacy, and Impact
With over 45 regional organizations currently signed on in support of the Vision and Policy Platform, the Vision offers the conservation community a leverageable document to ensure that biodiversity has a ‘seat at the table’ when decisions affecting our environment are being made.

The Biodiversity Working Group, co-chaired by the Garden and our friends at the Community Environmental Council, has committees actively working on wildlands and habitat connectivity, fire resilience, and agricultural landscapes – all in the context of addressing ecosystem health and biodiversity solutions.
