As gardener lead, Abraham Lizama maintains and enhances a variety of displays and areas throughout the grounds. His ardent passion for earthworks and land healing led him to Santa Barbara Botanic Garden where he contributes to the protection of native plants and supports local ecosystems. As a supporter of interspecies mutualism, he sees his work as vital to improving relationships amongst flora and fauna by providing spaces where they can coexist. His background includes extensive horticultural studies and professional practice, as well as a bachelor’s degree from University of California, Santa Barbara, in history of art and architecture. He can often be found in the ocean or in the mountains, or riding through town on his bike.
