A brightly yellow colored painting of a native plant.

In this exhibition, Santa Barbara Botanic Garden collaborates with Slingshot | Alpha Art Studio to explore the beauty found in California’s dry-season landscape. On view in the Pritzlaff Conservation Center Gallery, this exhibition focuses our attention on some of the captivating adaptations that form the foundation of our resilient ecosystem. Several artists from Slingshot | Alpha Art Studio have aptly rendered a selection of these remarkable species in elegant and economical representations. Clearly drawn lines and crisp media highlight the austere beauty of these native plants and remind us that their adaptations allow them to thrive.

About Slingshot / Alpha Art Studio

Slingshot (est. 2013) is a progressive arts studio that facilitates the creative practice and professional interest of artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in Santa Barbara County. The program is based in the belief that artistic discipline is an inherently accessible exercise that provides the individual with broad and expansive means to communicate and engage meaningfully in society.

Slingshot is committed to creating a platform for inclusion that promotes our artists and enables their contributions to our local community and the broader field of contemporary art. For over 70 years, the programs and services of the Alpha Resource Center of Santa Barbara have empowered individuals with IDD, supported families, and fostered belonging.
