Meet Alejandro Lemus, our Horticulture Educator, sharing one of his favorite native plants, the Channel Island bush poppy (Dendromecon harfordii)
With its silvery blue foliage and vibrant yellow blooms, this California-native plant adds year-round interest. Native to the Channel Islands, its flowering season is winter to spring but throughout most of the year, it can be covered in showy flowers.
Tune in to hear Alejandro’s tips on planting and caring for the Channel Island bush poppy in your own garden.

We’re excited to announce a collaboration with @thirdwindowbrewing
Starting today at their SB and Carp taprooms, Third Window will release a Saison Printemps 2026 brewed with hummingbird sage (from the Garden), lemon thyme, and lemon zest. This limited release is the first drop in our seasonal series that will highlight the flavors and ecological stories of California-native plants.
Get it while it lasts! The next drop is coming in June, so stay tuned.
The Garden is buzzing with excitement today as we host our annual Beer Garden fundraiser. This special evening brings our community together to celebrate great local beer, food, and our mission.
Please note, the Garden will be closed today, March 14, for the event. We’ll reopen with normal hours tomorrow, March 15, and look forward to welcoming you back to the trails.
A huge thank you to the sponsors, vendors, and partners who make this event possible. Your support helps grow our work in native plant conservation, education, and community programs.
Stay tuned as we raise a glass today in support of the Garden.
Your secret is safe with us.
Native planting season may be winding down, but you still have time to get a few more in the ground before the heat of summer begins. Stop by, shop our nursery, and get tips and tricks to support your home garden today!

At Condor’s Hope in the Cuyama Valley, restoration work is quite literally taking root.
From close-up seed sowing into quadrats to mapping out planting zones with flags, every step helps rebuild native plant communities that support biodiversity across this working landscape.
These small, careful actions today help restore ecosystem function for tomorrow. Stay tuned as the Cuyama project continues to grow.
