Katherine Guzman is the Digital Marketing Coordinator and responsible for website, newsletters, and digital advertising at the Garden.

Katherine Guzman Sanders comes to Santa Barbara Botanic Garden as a 15-year veteran of the hospitality industry, working in restaurants, hotels, spas, and even a winery. A writer at heart, Katherine earned her bachelor’s degree in English from University of California, Los Angeles. After graduating, she journeyed to Florence, Italy, where she studied food communications. In pursuit of her dream to become a food writer, Katherine landed internships at the Santa Barbara Independent and San Francisco Magazine. This path led her to a position as a publicist at Wagstaff Worldwide, a nationally acclaimed hospitality marketing and public relations agency.  

In 2018, Katherine opened Café Ana in downtown Santa Barbara in partnership with her husband, Julian. However, with the uncertainty of the 2020 COVID-19 quarantine, the pair were forced to close the café’s doors. 

After a parenting pause, Katherine joined the Garden as a digital marketing coordinator to help drive engagement through digital storytelling. 

Along the way, Katherine has learned that she loves to create memorable experiences. Whether she was guiding a vineyard tour in Napa Valley or setting up rose petals in a hotel room, she enjoyed the process as much as the final outcome.  

“Marketing and hospitality aren’t that different,” says Katherine. “At the end of the day, it’s about creating a feeling and telling a story with all the tools at your disposal. ” 

When not in the office, Katherine spends her free time shepherding her two daughters, ages 3 and 1, and five chickens. She enjoys cooking and baking for her family, tending to her vegetable garden, and keeping up with Santa Barbara’s restaurant scene.
